| Talked to browncoat30 earlier today and I CANNOT FREAKING BELIEVE that I could already have happily seen Planet of the Dead. Being out of the loop is sooo uncool. Now I'm heading home to investigate.... ; ) | |

| Very cute and clever - worth watching all the way through when you have time.
Happy Friday, flist!!!!!

| Well. Fred's mom just called a few minutes ago, pretty frantic and assuming we were dead. I knew the train accident today was national news, but she's usually not that plugged in to things that happen in other parts of the country, and even though they know we take the train quite a bit, I'm sure they didn't realise how close the accident was to us, and the fact that it's part of our regular route (or they really would have had reason to be concerned).
Now I feel bad that we didn't call her earlier but really, as we told her, had one of us been in the accident we would have called - jeez, now I feel bad.
Not to mention the fact that a phone call at 11 at night scared the crap out of me - as it stands right now, basically everyone I know who commutes by Metro has been accounted for, but a call at this hour on a Monday and I'm instantly freaked. What a horrible day. My thoughts and prayers are with those that need them.

| Also meant to mention....
Had a lovely time at DC Pride this weekend and a couple was there dressed at Jack and Ianto. How cool is that? : )

| *True Blood + Harris book spoilers ahead* What a way to start up season 2! Loved it, and I approve, though I've got a few things on my mind: ( Cut to spare the spoilers! )Also...as somewhat of an edit on my previous entry...True Blood has added a new fact to vampire hair care canon - evidently, they can highlight! | |

| So, today I'm really stuck on a particular issue as it relates to vampires - grooming, specifically hair care. Being a human and naturally interested in hair care myself, something is confusing me about a couple of current vampire-populated universes (this started bugging me this morning after having a convo with a friend about the New Moon trailer, so bear with me a moment).
I'll just preface this by saying that within the vampire fiction genre, I fully understand that each writer has their own take on their own vamps - any special skills they may have, what distinguishes them from regular humans, how they become vamped in the first place, what (if anything) might be painful or deadly to them, yadda yadda yadda.
In Charlaine Harris' vampire universe, it's a canon fact that vampires are stuck with whatever hair they had in their human lives, forever. I think Bill once even made a comment about his own facial hair - something to the effect of being pleased that sideburns were considered 'retro cool' and WHEW that he'd just shaved his beard before his run-in with Loretta. Because apparently, vampires can't shave or cut their hair at all (I envision something like Superman's experience at a hospital happening if they went to a salon - their hair would break the scissors). But...omg the comedic possibilities! Imagine being stuck with hopelessly outdated crazyhair and not being able to do a thing about it and BEING ALIVE FOREVER! Or having stubbly armpits for eternity - I'm just saying that if I personally was trying to be a sexy lady vampire, that would put a serious damper on my enthusiasm.
And then with Twilight.... I'm having a hard time remembering what the deal is here. Can Twilight vampires cut their hair? If they do, does it grow back (because I really can't see any logical justification for that). Did Alice have her mod pixie cut before she was bitten? I guess that could make sense - 1920s/30s women sported shorter styles sometimes, or I suppose she could have ended up with a ragged asylum-inflicted 'do that she's able to 'work' because she's cool like that...maybe I'm overthinking this.
Anyway, in analyzing the New Moon trailer, we were debating a couple of the hair changes that seem to be in effect since the first film - especially Jasper and Esme - also, Laurent seems to have a goatee or something now? How is this possible??? As far as Esme - really her hair is just styled differently. BUT, if the Cullens can use heated styling tools (irons, rollers, whatever) then why is Alice always so desperate to play stylist with Bella's irresistable human hair? What I mean is, if Alice could have similar styling fun with herself or any other family member, why doesn't she? I always figured there was some innate property of vampire hair and skin that made this impossible, or at least inconvenient. Now I'm thinking I need to refer back to that slumber party scene....
I know books and film are very different media, and I'm certainly not one to suggest that they shouldn't each play to their own strengths, but I just can't help being a bit puzzled over this. And I know, I know - this is a silly thing to focus on as opposed to the suprisingly-complete looking special effects and shirtless Taylor Lautner, but I can't help it!

| This one's full of great moments - my favorite is at 1:27 or so.
